I have stayed here 2 weeks, and this city definitely has ups and downs. On the bright side, the city is absolutely beautiful, especially in the summer when all the cultural activities and music festivals come alive. If you want a...See more decent place, be ready to pay for it. One person mentioned living in the East for over two years and enjoying it, despite the apartment sizes and prices. But others have found the center quite challenging. If you live in the center, you might find it very noisy. At least for me, the place that I stayed, I felt like neighbors don't care about being quiet at all. But I heard this similar experience from fellow nomads, too. Another downside is that you might feel like it's a huge tourist trap, filled with crowds, especially in peak seasons, and takes away from the local vibe. Amsterdam has a lot to offer, but it's important to think about the costs and the noisy, busy areas before deciding to live there.
