Beijing is a city that mixes history with modern life. You can see old palaces next to tall buildings, which shows its appeal. Living here, you will notice a friendly atmosphere, especially if you visit different neighborhoods—from the trendy cafes in Gulou to busy shopping areas. You can easily find cheap and tasty food, which many people appreciate. Another benefit? The subway is easy to use! It is better than the systems in London or NYC, making it simple to get around the city. But remember, air pollution can be a problem, especially in winter, so prepare if you are sensitive to it. While many locals can speak some English, it's a good idea to have a translation app since not everyone speaks it well. Also, using local cashless payment systems like WeChat Pay can make your life easier; just remember to set up a local bank account! Beijing is generally a safe city with low crime, but be careful of scams in tourist areas. Overall, Beijing is a city that you will enjoy more as you... explore it—full of surprises and memorable experiences waiting for you!

Beijing has a lot to offer with a mix of modern life and rich history. I spent almost three years here and it was quite the experience. The city is huge but feels like a small town in some neighbourhoods. There are cool areas from commercial to hipster, and some with ancient buildings. Transportation is fantastic, especially the subway—way better than London or NYC. Tons of cozy cafes and bars... with good internet, great for working or hanging out. The food is cheap and delicious, from street food to nice restaurants. Easy to find tutoring work for extra cash and flexible hours. Just watch out for scams in tourist areas; streets are generally safe but stay alert. Big downside is the air pollution, especially in winter. It can be overwhelming and you have to adjust. Also, the Great Firewall can be a hassle for using certain sites. VPNs help but aren't always reliable. Overall, Beijing is unique and vibrant. It’s a bit imposing at first but gets easier to love over time.
