Chiang Mai is a mix of tradition and modern life located in the mountains of northern Thailand. With its strong Buddhist influence, you’ll find beautiful temples and a friendly community that is warm and kind. It’s a great place for nature lovers, with hiking areas, waterfalls, and large national parks nearby, making it a good spot for outdoor activities like trekking and mountain biking. However, there are some downsides. Many people find the lack of walkable areas and basic public transport is a problem, making a scooter almost necessary for getting around. The air quality can be poor during the burning season from February to April, which leads some people to leave the city at that time. Chiang Mai provides relaxed living and lively culture, with new cafes and art spaces appearing often, especially in the Nimman neighborhood. The cost of living is quite low, which is good for students and digital nomads looking for a place to work without spending too much money. Just be ready... for some humidity and traffic – patience is important here! Overall, it’s a nice place where you can enjoy good food, meet interesting people, and find your rhythm among the activity.

Chiang Mai looks like either people LOVE it or not understand at all. It has rich Buddish history that makes the atmosphere feel unique and lovely. You can get to know so many digital nomads, hikers and creative types of people. There's lots of mountains, waterfall and parks that makes it perfect for outdoor lovers. But I would say it's not so easy to walk around without a scooter, and the air... quality here is not so perfect during Feb-April season. During those months, many people choose to leave the city for somewhere with better air - and bear in mind that May and June is a hot season, too. IMO October to January is the best to visit here. Also, the locals' English can be quite basic, but using a translation app can help. While the old city is more suited for walking, some areas like Nimman are busier and more popular with tourists. If you're looking for a place to relax, connect with nature, and enjoy outdoor adventures, Chiang Mai might just be what you’re searching for. It's easy to travel to other places from here if you need a break or want a change of scenery, with the airport conveniently located right in the city.
