Curitiba, in southern Brazil, surprises many with its modern feel and clean streets. It combines Brazilian qualities with Western European style. Visitors often say it is different from what they expected of Brazil, with well-planned urban areas that make it a busy city of nearly 2 million people. One of its key features is the good public transport system, which makes it easy to get around. There are many parks and open areas, great for walking or having a picnic. Centro, near Shopping Estação, and Batel, close to Praça Japão, are popular neighborhoods to stay in; both are lively and easy to navigate on foot. Keep in mind the language. While younger locals might speak some English, knowing a bit of Portuguese can be helpful. Winter can be cold, so dress warmly! Safety in busy areas is usually good, but it's smart to stay alert. The nightlife is active, with many locals ready to enjoy themselves. If you want an overlooked destination, Curitiba might become one of your new favorite... cities!
