Kharkiv has a unique appeal that mixes its history with a lively, modern atmosphere. Although it may not have the large historical buildings that other cities have because of post-WW2 rebuilding, its character is clear in the energetic spirit of its educated and business-focused people. If you want to see the center of the city, be sure to check out places like Gorky Park and Sarzhyn Yar, and enjoy a night out in the popular area around Gor Kafe 1654. Getting around Kharkiv can be a bit difficult, especially since many locals do not speak English well. Russian is often spoken, but don’t worry; people are friendly and willing to assist. Just keep in mind that public transport runs until midnight, and it's better to book taxis through apps for an easier ride. Watch out for rental prices if you’re considering living here; they can be high compared to salaries. The city often seems rough—with old apartments and cracked sidewalks—but many people find it safe and comfortable. With a... growing number of students, there are many activities to enjoy, from finding hidden places like the ‘school pub’ to visiting the many parks. While winters can be hard, if you adapt to the local way of life, you'll find many reasons to appreciate Kharkiv!
