Located in northeastern Thailand, Nakhon Ratchasima, or Korat as locals call it, has a relaxed atmosphere that is a nice change from busy Bangkok. The people here are friendly, making it easy to feel at home. Also, you are unlikely to face many scams because of its local feel. Language may be challenging since not many people speak English, but a smile and a few words in Thai, Cambodian, or Lao can help. If you need healthcare, be ready for long waits at public hospitals, but dental care is surprisingly cheap and good, especially with some dentists who speak English. Food lovers will be happy! Eating out is cheaper than cooking at home, especially if you visit local stalls. However, be careful with regular restaurants, as prices can add up quickly. While Nakhon Ratchasima does not have major attractions, a short drive to nearby Buriram shows beautiful historical sites. There is plenty of free WiFi in malls and hotels, so you can stay connected, but don’t expect very fast speeds.... Enjoy the slower pace and take in the unique local culture—Korat has its own special feel that is worth experiencing!
